DSM Chess Team Places
16th out of 2,200 !
Tuesday, May 13—The Dumbarton
Chess Team spent three days in Pittsburgh at the Chess Federation’s
National Chess Tournament. Over 2,200 students nation-wide participated.
Students flew in from California, Washington, Minnesota, Mississippi
and numerous other states to take part. Over 500 students attended
from the New York metropolitan area alone. The Dumbarton team
took 16th place in the K-6 tournament with 15.5 points scored—a
team record. All four Dumbarton participants scored points for
wins in this team effort, and we were playing one man short
when one of our best players got sick and was unable to attend.
Chris R led the team with six wins and only one defeat, and
he placed tenth in the overall individual competition. Congratulations
to all four of our participants: Chris R, Saketh P, Andrew S,
and Jasper I. If any of them are in your homeroom, give them
a round of applause. The team trophy can be seen on the office
counter next to our first place trophy in the Maryland State
Chess Tournament.
